Walking home at dusk
amid falling leaves and the
memory of love,

I saw a squirrel, perched
on an electrical line,
hovering the street.

Calm, collected, it
looked like a suicide at
the Golden Gate Bridge.

Below it, headlights
and car horns, surging, sloshing—
chilled, ceaseless waters.
